Anne Mondro Statement

In this series of digital prints I explore the complexity of human relationships. The Vulnerable Series evokes emotions associated with intimacy and vulnerability through form and gesture.  The abstract figures depicted in the images are life-size flexible sculptures hand-crocheted out of steel wire.  The contrast and texture of the wire portrays the figures as ethereal silhouettes.   Crocheting (the process of using a hooked needle to pull loops from a continuous thread and working with one stitch at time) enables the figures to interlace each other physically and metaphorically to express universal aspects of humanity.
