Should the artist pursue phenomenological space, which exists in the real world, or should they chase the intellectual core issues of the self? What drives the seeds of creativity?
All conception for me begins with drawing. To make a mark and have it do or go somewhere, that journey of mind and emotions. To form intellectual magic, passionate magic dedicated to real issues of the heart or the world outsides ourselves. |
I have become a spiritual seeker. Everyone can make his or her own interpretation of what spiritual means |
My content as a painter, printmaker is rooted in issues both cultural and personal. It is at times politically motivated yet in other instances most spiritual and very personal.
Most often. I make use of personal symbols or metaphors with the express intent of confronting or challenging the viewers personal point of view. To either validate or challenge visual and intellectual understanding. It is my desireto develop a dialogue both visual and intellectual between the viewer and the work itself. |
Content is intended for the most part to create a form of conscience within the viewer. To leave them disturbed, challenged, inspired, spiritually aware or confronted .... Anything but complacent, or pleasantly relieved of accountability, it is viewer response I endeavor to openly capture. |
I believe with any creation comes responsibility by each artist to his or her culture to make a better and more responsible world. To create is to come to terms with the self to be in touch with ones true soul. |
The question then becomes is it better to create answers or to create questions? Both have their own truths. My choice is to create questions. I have always been and probably will remain seduced by drama as in music, theatre, movies, etc. I am drawn to the tenebrism of Rembrandt and the orchestration of color by Monet, Degas and DeKooning. |
Every idea has a life of its own and it is that life I choose to pursue. |
